Juvenile crime, also called the entrance to the criminal world, is a common problem in many countries around the world. Criminologists believe that juvenile crime is the key area in criminology to immurse themselves in to understand the big picture as to why individuals become criminals. To deal with this kind of problem it is very important to deepen in these kind of studies - why do people become criminals?

This essay lifts the basic theories in criminology that explains why people become criminals and also the main views and opinions of criminologists such as Felipe Estrada, Jerzy Sarnecki and Anders Nilsson about why people become criminals. The essay also contains quotations of some criminals in the age of 18-25 that have been interviewed about this subject and their lives, to get a deeper understanding about why people, including them, become criminals. Two of the individuals that were interviewed lives in Uppsala, two lives in Stockholm and two of them lives i Göteborg (cities in Sweden).

Unfortunately the answer to this question, why someone becomes criminal, is neither black or white. There are many factors that can underpin why someone becomes a criminal. It can be problems like exclusion and a inclusive society as well as growing up without a present and good father figure, a rolemodel or psycological defects. After writing this essay it became clear to me, and it depends from person to person why they become criminals, and that is something that has been lifted in the essay.
